The NGO Regulatory Authority has assured USAID that one of the reasons the NGO Act was amended was to ensure that the public has confidence in the NGO Sector. The remarks were made by NGORA CEO, Voice Mhone when he hosted officials from USAID at NGORA offices. The meeting was held in order to explore ways on which to strengthen governance in the NGO sector
“The aim of NGORA is to create public confidence in NGOs. The NGO law was therefore amended not to stifle NGO space but to improve accountability and to strengthened the sector,” said Mhone.
In her remarks Mission Director for USAID Anna Toness said that she was appreciative of the work that NGORA does and was also appreciative of NGORA for the consultative process that was taken to draft the NGO Regulations.
NGORA is currently in the process of developing regulations to operationalise the recently amended NGO Law.
